Un peculiar, aunque grotesco, personaje ha llegado al ashram <\/span>vestido llamativamente con un traje de tres piezas, un sombrero de castor y un pa\u00f1uelo anudado al cuello. Con este clima, su piel deber\u00eda estar quemada; me pregunto c\u00f3mo es <\/span>que todav\u00eda parece intacta. Lleva un bast\u00f3n de \u00e9bano con la miniatura de la cabeza de un le\u00f3n rugiendo hecho en bronce.
<\/span> Atrae miradas curiosas por todas partes. Parece ser que el sarvadhikari [ashram manager-Ramana\u2019s brother] se cay\u00f3 del susto al ver al hombre y su bast\u00f3n. Pensando que debe ser cort\u00e9s con sus anfitriones, se quita el sombrero cada vez que se encuentra con alguien en el ashram, con el resultado de que la gente de aqu\u00ed ha llegado a la conclusi\u00f3n de que han soltado un loco entre ellos. Como creen que les va a atacar, todos huyen de \u00e9l en cuanto le ven.
Su cabeza es inusualmente grande y parece un gigantesco huevo de avestruz. El resto de su cuerpo est\u00e1 desnutrido y delgado. Est\u00e1 completamente calvo y tiene un bigotillo como un l\u00e1piz. Una c\u00f3mica perilla a\u00f1ade el toque final a la excentricidad de su aspecto. Extra\u00f1amente, sus ojos protuberantes tienen un aspecto hilarantemente tr\u00e1gico: transmiten la impresi\u00f3n de un hombre que es incapaz de tomarse en serio a s\u00ed mismo, pero que siempre ha deseado hacerlo.
Entr\u00f3 en la sala y se inclin\u00f3 ante Bhagav\u00e2n, con el sombrero en la mano pegado a la barriga y el mon\u00f3culo colgando en el aire. Bhagav\u00e2n pareci\u00f3 observarle con apacible inter\u00e9s. Se present\u00f3 a s\u00ed mismo con Chadwick actuando como su int\u00e9rprete. Su nombre es Monsieur Pierre G\u00e9ant, pero sus amigos lo conocen como \u00abL’affol\u00e9 n\u00e9ant\u00bb(el p\u00e1nico a la nada). Viene de la Rep\u00fablica del Gran L\u00edbano, antes parte de Turqu\u00eda; descendiente del lugar desde el fin de la Gran Guerra. Siempre le interes\u00f3 el misticismo y la perspectiva de experimentar una uni\u00f3n personal con Dios Todopoderoso.
En 1896 hab\u00eda llegado a un punto de inflexi\u00f3n en <\/span>su vida: hab\u00eda conocido a Swami Vivekananda en Inglaterra. Vivekananda le recomend\u00f3 el estudio de la vida de su Gur\u00fa, as\u00ed como del Vedanta. As\u00ed pues, el \u00abAngustiado\u00bb se enfrasc\u00f3 en Sri Ramakrishna y en el Vedanta <\/span>durante a\u00f1os. Las experiencias de Sri Ramakrishna le conmovieron hasta el alma y quiso reproducirlas para s\u00ed mismo. Justo cuando se sent\u00eda desesperadamente abatido y agitado por el hecho de que Ramakrishna ya no estaba en carne y hueso, un amigo de habla inglesa le ley\u00f3 el libro de Paul Brunton y <\/span>el \u00abMaharishi\u00bb capt\u00f3 su inter\u00e9s profundamente. As\u00ed que se subi\u00f3 al primer barco de vapor<\/span>que se dirig\u00eda hacia aqu\u00ed. Ten\u00eda preguntas para Bhagavan.<\/span><\/p>\n

P.: Si el Yo-soy-Dios es la Verdad, \u00bfno equivale a la arrogancia?
<\/span><\/i>B.: No significa que t\u00fa -como te imaginas que eres- seas Dios. Significa que Dios es el verdadero \u00abYo\u00bb. <\/b><\/p>\n


P.: Hay un ser <\/span><\/i>que coexiste con la personalidad y se adhiere al cuerpo. Es <\/span><\/i>conocido como la mente. Luego esta el Parabrahman [Supreme Being] mencionado en el Vedanta. Esto se conoce como la Esencia Impersonal del hombre. \u00bfCu\u00e1l es mi verdadero ser? \u00bfPuedo tener m\u00e1s de un ser?
<\/span><\/i>B.: La mente es un fantasma. En la Esencia Impersonal la mente no se encuentra en ninguna parte.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n


P.: \u00bfC\u00f3mo se llega a ella?
<\/span><\/i>B.: No hay nadie ah\u00ed para alcanzarla. Por lo tanto, no hay nada que obtener. Ap\u00e1gate y deja que la Luz brille. Ap\u00e1gate como mente y brilla como el Ser.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n


P.: En la pr\u00e1ctica, \u00bfcu\u00e1l es el m\u00e9todo para ello?
<\/span><\/i>B.: Investigar \u201c\u00bfQui\u00e9n soy yo?\u201d.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n


P.: Pero esta investigaci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n se hace solo con la mente.
<\/span><\/i>B.: Comienza, sin duda, en la mente. Termina en la no-mente.<\/b><\/p>\n

Bhagav\u00e2n pidi\u00f3 a Chadwick que le leyera \u00ab\u00bfQui\u00e9n soy yo?\u00bb<\/i> en franc\u00e9s.
