En 1896, Venkataraman, un gar\u00e7on de 16 ans, d\u00e9fia la mort par une enqu\u00eate approfondie sur la source de son \u00eatre. L’\u00e9veil le conduisit par la suite intuitivement \u00e0 la montagne sacr\u00e9e Arunachala au sud de l’Inde. Ici, il passait des ann\u00e9es de solitude \u00e0 m\u00e9diter dans des temples et des grottes. Plus tard dans sa vie, il devint connu sous le nom de Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi et attira de nombreux chercheurs spirituels dans son ashram au pied de la montagne Arunachala. Chaque visiteur a re\u00e7u des enseignements selon son propre niveau de compr\u00e9hension et de priorit\u00e9 pour la libert\u00e9. La montagne Arunachala est l’un des cinq lieux saints d\u00e9di\u00e9s \u00e0 Shiva au sud de l’Inde. Sri Ramana Ashram est situ\u00e9 \u00e0 ses pieds. Selon la l\u00e9gende, Brahma et Vishnu se disputaient pour savoir lequel d’entre eux \u00e9tait sup\u00e9rieur. Pour r\u00e9gler le diff\u00e9rend, Shiva est entr\u00e9 et a utilis\u00e9 ses pouvoirs impressionnants pour se manifester sous la forme d’une colonne de lumi\u00e8re qui s’est ensuite transform\u00e9e en la forme d’Arunachala.<\/p>\n

Ramana Maharshi a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que tandis que d’autres lieux saints tels que Varanasi et Rishikesh sont des demeures importantes de Shiva, la montagne Arunachala est Shiva lui-m\u00eame.<\/p>\n

C’est un endroit qui fournit une v\u00e9ritable connaissance de soi (jnana) et parce que cela n’est pas souhait\u00e9 par beaucoup de gens, Arunachala reste relativement inconnu. Ramana explique la raison pour laquelle cette pratique est particuli\u00e8rement efficace : \u00ab Ce qui est essentiel dans toutesadhana [spiritual practice]<\/a> c’est d’essayer de ramener l’esprit errant et de le fixer sur une seule chose. \u00bb Pourquoi alors ne devrait-il pas \u00eatre ramen\u00e9 et fix\u00e9 sur l’attention sur Soi (sur cette id\u00e9e du \u00ab Moi \u00bb) ?
