Yet even this is a gift, for the Glimpse plants a seed. Once you have tasted that Peace, you can no longer fully believe you are just this small person &#8216;me&#8217;. Often it begins as a fleeting glimpse: a quiet moment of deep presence, a sudden stillness, or a mysterious sense that &#8220;I am not my story.&#8221; Such moments feel like windows opening onto a vast, peaceful expanse that has always been here.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"687\" data-end=\"894\">Yet Awakening is rarely the end. It\u2019s the beginning of a journey\u2014a <strong data-start=\"754\" data-end=\"764\">Satori<\/strong>, as the <a style=\"color: black;\" href=\"https:\/\/johndavidsatsang.international\/blog\/zen-verses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zen<\/a> masters call it\u2014that invites you deeper into yourself, beyond <a style=\"color: black;\" href=\"https:\/\/johndavidsatsang.international\/blog\/the-conditioning-of-our-mind\/\">conditioning<\/a> and ego, into the freedom of simply being.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote data-start=\"896\" data-end=\"1195\">\n<p data-start=\"898\" data-end=\"1195\"><em data-start=\"898\" data-end=\"1121\">\u201cMy understanding is that the point of our life, if anything, is to become Self-realised. This means that we see the ego, the movie of our life, is not who we are. class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9e9cb22 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9e9cb22\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1239\" data-end=\"1496\">Spiritual Awakening is the recognition that you are not the restless thoughts or roles you play but the silent awareness in which all experience appears. It is a shift from identifying with &#8220;me and my story&#8221; to resting in what <a style=\"color: black !important;\" href=\"https:\/\/johndavidsatsang.international\/ramana-maharshi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sri Ramana Maharshi <\/a>called <em data-start=\"1483\" data-end=\"1493\">the Self<\/em>.<\/p><p data-start=\"1498\" data-end=\"1541\">In <a style=\"color: black !important;\" href=\"https:\/\/openskypress.com\/product\/great-misunderstanding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Great Misunderstanding<\/a>, I wrote:<\/p><blockquote data-start=\"1542\" data-end=\"1820\"><p data-start=\"1544\" data-end=\"1820\"><em data-start=\"1544\" data-end=\"1783\">&#8220;As human beings we have come to perceive ourselves as separate from the world around us. This great misunderstanding is the source of all our suffering. It is the best moment of your life. Even so, there is often fear and the fear closes down the glimpse. In the beginning it will just be a glimpse, a flash where the clouds (the structures of the mind) in the blue sky part, and you get a glimpse of the blueness. You feel this very deeply. It is very beautiful but it is not something you can do, it just happens. In that instance the whole sense of separate self disappears.\n<\/p>\nThis is what is really important. The sense of self \u2013 this \u2018me\u2019 that we are so attached to \u2013 disappears. It is a completely shocking moment.\n<\/p>\nIt is tremendously life-changing because once this small moment has happened then you know something that you didn\u2019t know before. You know yourself in a new way, but then the Self we\u2019re talking about is no longer this rather small illusionary self. It is suddenly another Self, the Self, the authentic Self, vast, a feeling of oneness, tremendous love, peace and tremendous connectedness.\n<\/p>After a few seconds, the familiar sense of self \u2013 the usual \u2018me\u2019 \u2013 often returns very quickly. The lid blows off and there\u2019s a tremendous amount of energy released. It can also happen over time, in an imperceptible way. Then it is quite common, that the physical body doesn&#8217;t function for some time, perhaps for a few hours or a few days.<\/p><p>Then the amazing thing is that you can function extremely well afterwards, even better than before because there isn\u2019t the constant filter and static of the mind.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p><p>It takes some time to accept this and when you do, it just happens. There is no formula, there is no practice. I know a lot of people who have had such an opening, even if it was only for a short moment.<\/p><p>This is what is really important. The sense of self \u2013 this \u2018me\u2019 that we are so attached to \u2013 disappears. It is a completely shocking moment.
