Guru Purnima Day

Guru Purnima Day

When I was living with Papaji I still had very strong issues with my father, and sometimes I was looking to Papa to come and tell me  I was a good boy. I guess he knew that.
It was a special day; it was Guru Purnima day when everybody gives a garland to the Guru. We all came in a long line, each holding a garland, and slowly we came closer to Papaji.
The procedure was that you gave the garland to Papaji, you knelt down and then Papaji took off the garland and gave it to an assistant. Then he would look into your eyes for a moment and then give you back the garland. This was very, very beautiful because you had Papaji totally to yourself for one or two moments.
As I got closer and closer I was filling up inside, feeling “Wow… this is so great.” Then it was my turn. I gave him the garland, I knelt down and then Papaji noticed a fly on the ceiling. (laughter) I was completely smashed into pieces. I was completely smashed… (laughter). It took me days to recover.
A Master like Papaji, he knows exactly what’s going on, he knows exactly your expectations, and he won’t give it to you. There would be other days I would be standing somewhere in the corner, very, very happy, amusing myself, not even being interested in Papaji, and then suddenly he would be walking directly towards me through the crowd. Everybody would move away and then he would suddenly come and stand in front of me.
This is wonderful. Very painful and wonderful. If you have an issue about authority, close to a master is where it really gets blown up and explodes.
